Good News Translation
Put this altar outside the curtain which hangs in front of the Covenant Box. That is the place where I will meet you.

You shall place it in front of the curtain that is above the ark of the covenant, in front of the mercy seat that is over the covenant, where I will meet with you.

Contemporary English Version
Put the altar in front of the inside curtain of the sacred tent. The chest with the place of mercy is kept behind that curtain, and I will talk with you there.
