ContextTaming the Tongue
…5Even so the tongue is indeed a little member and boasteth great things. Behold how small a fire kindleth a great wood. 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is placed among our members, which defileth the whole body and inflameth the wheel of our nativity, being set on fire by hell. 7For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of the rest is tamed and hath been tamed, by the nature of man.…
O Lord, deliver my soul from wicked lips, and a deceitful tongue.
What shall be given to thee, or what shall be added to thee, to a deceitful tongue?
The wicked man diggeth evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
Behold all you that kindle a fire, encompassed with flames, walk in the light of your fire, and in the flames which you have kindled: this is done to you by my hand, you shall sleep in sorrows.
But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council. And whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment.
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man.
For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of the rest is tamed and hath been tamed, by the nature of man.
