1 Corinthians 8
Peshitta Holy Bible Translated Par ▾
1But concerning sacrifices, we know that knowledge is in all of us, and knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2But if a man thinks that he knows something, he does not yet know anything as he ought to know. 3But if a man loves God, this one is known by him.

4Concerning food sacrifices to idols, we know that the idol is nothing in the universe and that there is no other God but One. 5For even though there are what are called gods, whether in the Heavens or in The Earth, as there are many gods and many lords, 6To us, ours is one God The Father, for all things are from him and we are in him, and The One LORD JEHOVAH Yeshua The Messiah, for all things are by him, and we are also in his hand.

7But that knowledge has not been in every person, for there are some people even until now in whose conscience eat what is sacrificed to idols, and because their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8But food does not bring us to God, for if we eat, we gain nothing, and if we do not eat, we lose nothing. 9But take heed, lest this your power shall be a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if a man should see you who have knowledge in you, reclining in the house of idols, behold, will he not be encouraged to eat what is sacrificed because his conscience is weak? 11And he who is sickly, for whose sake The Messiah has died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12And if in this way you subvert your brethren and tread on the conscience of the sickly, you commit an offense against The Messiah. 13Therefore, if food brings down my brother, I shall never eat flesh, lest I cause my brother to sin.
