The Beast from the Sea

1Then I saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads, and ten horns; upon his horns were ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2and the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority. 3and I saw one of his heads, as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world went wondring after the beast. 4They worshipped the dragon which had given his power to the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, "who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" 5there was given to him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemy; and power was given to him for two and forty months. 6and he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and those that dwell in heaven,

7he was permitted to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all the tribes, and provinces, and nations. 8all that dwell upon the earth will worship him, whose names are not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the lamb, that was slain. 9if any man have an ear, let him hear. 10he hath leadeth into captivity, shall be led into captivity: he that killeth with the sword, shall perish by the sword, here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

The Beast from the Earth

11Then I beheld another beast coming out of the earth, it had two horns like a lamb, but it spake like a dragon. 12he exercised all the power of the first beast by his authority, and caused the earth, and those who dwell therein, to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13he perform'd great wonders, so as to make fire come down from heaven on the earth, in the sight of men. 14and he deceived the inhabitants of the earth, by the prodigys which he had power to effect by the influence of the beast, by telling the inhabitants of the earth, that he had made an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, but yet did revive. 15he had power likewise to animate the image made for the beast, so that the image was made to speak, and as many as would not worship the image were order'd to be killed.

The Mark of the Beast

16he likewise obliged all, both small and great, rich and poor, the freeman and the slave, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and order'd, 17that no body should buy or sell unless he had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred sixty six.
