First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,
for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.2for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,3This is good, and it pleases God our Savior,
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human,
who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.6who gave Himself--a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.
For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.7For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.8Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.
Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,9Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel,
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.10but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God.
A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.11A woman should learn in silence with full submission.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.12I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent.
For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.13For Adam was created first, then Eve.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.
Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.15But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good judgment.
