Berean Study Bible | International Standard Version |
O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth. | 1God of vengeance, LORD God of vengeance, display your splendor! |
Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud. | 2Stand up, judge of the earth, and repay the proud. |
How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult? | 3How long will the wicked, LORD, how long will the wicked continue to triumph? |
They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast. | 4When they speak, they spew arrogance. Everyone who practices iniquity brags about it. |
They crush Your people, O LORD; they oppress Your heritage. | 5LORD, they have crushed your people, afflicting your heritage. |
They kill the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. | 6The wicked kill widows and foreigners; they murder orphans. |
They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.” | 7They say, "The LORD cannot see, and the God of Jacob will not notice." |
Take notice, O senseless among the people! O fools, when will you be wise? | 8Pay attention, you dull ones among the crowds! You fools! Will you ever become wise? |
He who affixed the ear, can He not hear? He who formed the eye, can He not see? | 9The one who formed the ear can hear, can he not? The one who made the eyes can see, can he not? |
He who admonishes the nations, does He not discipline? He who teaches man, does He lack knowledge? | 10The one who disciplines nations can rebuke them, can he not? The one who teaches mankind can discern, can he not? |
The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile. | 11The LORD knows the thoughts of human beings— that they are futile. |
Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, and teach from Your law, | 12How blessed is the man whom you instruct, LORD, whom you teach from your Law, |
to grant him relief from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked. | 13keeping him calm when times are troubled until a pit has been dug for the wicked. |
For the LORD will not forsake His people; He will never abandon His heritage. | 14For the LORD will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage. |
Surely judgment will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. | 15Righteousness will be restored with justice, and all the pure of heart will follow it. |
Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity? | 16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand for me against those who practice iniquity? |
Unless the LORD had been my helper, I would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. | 17If the LORD had not been my helper, I would have quickly become silent. |
If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loving devotion, O LORD, supports me. | 18When I say that my foot is shaking, your gracious love, LORD, will sustain me. |
When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul. | 19When my anxious inner thoughts become overwhelming, your comfort encourages me. |
Can a corrupt throne be Your ally—one devising mischief by decree? | 20Will destructive national leaders, who plan wicked things through misuse of the Law, be allied with you? |
They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. | 21They gather together against the righteous, condemning the innocent to death. |
But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge. | 22But the LORD is my stronghold, and my God, the rock, is my refuge. |
He will bring upon them their own iniquity and destroy them for their wickedness. The LORD our God will destroy them. | 23He will repay them for their sin; he will annihilate them because of their evil. The LORD our God will annihilate them. |
