Berean Study Bible | New International Version |
O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth. | 1The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth. |
Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud. | 2Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. |
How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult? | 3How long, LORD, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? |
They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast. | 4They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. |
They crush Your people, O LORD; they oppress Your heritage. | 5They crush your people, LORD; they oppress your inheritance. |
They kill the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. | 6They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. |
They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.” | 7They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice." |
Take notice, O senseless among the people! O fools, when will you be wise? | 8Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? |
He who affixed the ear, can He not hear? He who formed the eye, can He not see? | 9Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? |
He who admonishes the nations, does He not discipline? He who teaches man, does He lack knowledge? | 10Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? |
The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile. | 11The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile. |
Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, and teach from Your law, | 12Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law; |
to grant him relief from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked. | 13you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. |
For the LORD will not forsake His people; He will never abandon His heritage. | 14For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. |
Surely judgment will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. | 15Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. |
Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity? | 16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? |
Unless the LORD had been my helper, I would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. | 17Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. |
If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loving devotion, O LORD, supports me. | 18When I said, "My foot is slipping," your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. |
When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul. | 19When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. |
Can a corrupt throne be Your ally—one devising mischief by decree? | 20Can a corrupt throne be allied with you-- a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? |
They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. | 21The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. |
But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge. | 22But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. |
He will bring upon them their own iniquity and destroy them for their wickedness. The LORD our God will destroy them. | 23He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them. |
