Come now, you who are rich, weep and wail over the misery to come upon you.1Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.
Your riches have rotted and moths have eaten your clothes.2Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten.
Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days.3Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.4Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter.5You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.
You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.6You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer awaits the precious fruit of the soil—how patient he is for the fall and spring rains.7Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.
You, too, be patient and strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.8You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
Do not complain about one another, brothers, so that you will not be judged. Look, the Judge is standing at the door!9Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.
Brothers, as an example of patience in affliction, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.10As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.11We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
Above all, my brothers, do not swear, not by heaven or earth or by any other oath. Simply let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment.12But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.
Is any one of you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.13Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.14Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.15and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.16Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.17Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.
Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops.18Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back,19My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back,
consider this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.20let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
