Of David. Blessed be the LORD, my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. | 1By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, |
He is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer. He is my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. | 2who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me. |
O LORD, what is man, that You regard him, the son of man that You think of him? | 3O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them? |
Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. | 4People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears. |
Part Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, that they may smoke. | 5O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder! |
Flash forth Your lightning and scatter them; shoot Your arrows and rout them. | 6Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! |
Reach down from on high; set me free and rescue me from the deep waters, from the grasp of foreigners, | 7Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners, |
whose mouths speak falsehood, whose right hands are deceitful. | 8who speak lies, and make false promises. |
I will sing to You a new song, O God; on a harp of ten strings I will make music to You— | 9O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you, |
to Him who gives victory to kings, who frees His servant David from the deadly sword. | 10the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword. |
Set me free and rescue me from the grasp of foreigners, whose mouths speak falsehood, whose right hands are deceitful. | 11Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises. |
Then our sons will be like plants nurtured in their youth, our daughters like corner pillars carved to adorn a palace. | 12Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace. |
Our storehouses will be full, supplying all manner of produce; our flocks will bring forth thousands, tens of thousands in our fields. | 13Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures. |
Our oxen will bear great loads. There will be no breach in the walls, no going into captivity, and no cry of lament in our streets. | 14Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. |
Blessed are the people of whom this is so; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD. | 15How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! |
