For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me. | 1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. |
In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. | 2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. |
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah | 3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) |
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. | 4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. |
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. | 5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times. |
At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: | 6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening. |
“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? | 7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor? |
Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? | 8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?" |
So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” | 10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive. |
I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. | 11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! |
I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds. | 12I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!" |
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? | 13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God? |
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations. |
With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah) |
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken. | 16The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear. |
The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about. |
Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. | 18Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. |
Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found. | 19You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints. |
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
