Berean Study BibleNew International Version
For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me.1For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.
In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted.2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah3I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak.4You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.5I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered:6I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again?7"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?
Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time?8Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?"
So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”10Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds.12I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds."
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God?13Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples.14You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah15With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken.16The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.
The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth.17The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth.
Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.18Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found.19Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
