Berean Study BibleNew International Version
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; save me by Your righteousness.1For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
Incline Your ear to me; come quickly to my rescue. Be my rock of refuge, the stronghold of my deliverance.2Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; lead me and guide me for the sake of Your name.3Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
You free me from the net laid out for me, for You are my refuge.4Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth.5Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols, but in the LORD I trust.6I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in Your loving devotion, for You have seen my affliction; You have known the anguish of my soul.7I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
You have not delivered me to the enemy; You have set my feet in the open.8You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes fail from sorrow, my soul and body as well.9Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.
For my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength, and my bones are wasting away.10My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
Among all my enemies I am a disgrace, and among my neighbors even more. I am dreaded by my friends—they flee when they see me on the street.11Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.
I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind. I am like a broken vessel.12I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side. They conspire against me and plot to take my life.13For I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side!" They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”14But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.15My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.
Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion.16Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in Sheol.17Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.
May lying lips be silenced—lips that speak with arrogance against the righteous, full of pride and contempt.18Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.
How great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have bestowed before the sons of men on those who take refuge in You!19How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the schemes of men. You conceal them in Your shelter from accusing tongues.20In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His loving devotion in a city under siege.21Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.
In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my plea for mercy when I called to You for help.22In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
Love the LORD, all His saints. The LORD preserves the faithful, but fully repays the arrogant.23Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full.
Be strong and courageous, all you who hope in the LORD.24Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
