Psalm 140
BSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Berean Study BibleNew Living Translation
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men. Protect me from men of violence,1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent,
who devise evil in their hearts and stir up war all day long.2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.
They sharpen their tongues like snakes; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Selah3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude
Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Keep me safe from men of violence who scheme to make me stumble.4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.
The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. Selah5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude
I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for help.6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You shield my head in the day of battle.7O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle.
Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not promote their evil plans, lest they be exalted. Selah8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude
May the heads of those who surround me be covered in the trouble their lips have caused.9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.
May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the miry pits, never to rise again.10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.
May no slanderer be established in the land; may calamity hunt down the man of violence.11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.
I know that the LORD upholds justice for the poor and defends the cause of the needy.12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.
Surely the righteous will praise Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence.
