| 1A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, His holy mountain. | 1How great is the LORD, how deserving of praise, in the city of our God, which sits on his holy mountain! |
| 2Beautiful in loftiness, the joy of all the earth, like the peaks of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the great King. | 2It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King! |
| 3God is in her citadels; He has shown Himself to be a fortress. | 3God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers, revealing himself as its defender. |
| 4For behold, the kings assembled; they all advanced together. | 4The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city. |
| 5They saw and were astounded; they fled in terror. | 5But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away. |
| 6Trembling seized them there, anguish like a woman in labor. | 6They were gripped with terror and writhed in pain like a woman in labor. |
| 7With a wind from the east You wrecked the ships of Tarshish. | 7You destroyed them like the mighty ships of Tarshish shattered by a powerful east wind. |
| 8As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of Hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish her forever. | 9Within Your temple, O God, we contemplate Your loving devotion. | 9O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple. |
| 10Your name, O God, like Your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. | 10As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory. |
| 11Mount Zion is glad, the daughters of Judah rejoice, on account of Your judgments. | 11Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice. Let all the towns of Judah be glad because of your justice. |
| 12March around Zion, encircle her, count her towers, | 12Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers. |
| 13consider her ramparts, tour her citadels, that you may tell the next generation. | 13Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations. |
| 14For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death. | 14For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die. |
