First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, | 1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, |
for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. | 2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. |
This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, | 3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, |
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the man Christ Jesus, | 5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, |
who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. | 6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. |
For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. | 7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. |
Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument. | 8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. |
Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel, | 9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, |
but with good works, as is proper for women who profess to worship God. | 10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. |
A woman is to learn quietly with full submission. | 11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. |
I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to remain quiet. | 12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. |
For Adam was formed first, then Eve. | 13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. |
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed. | 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. |
But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with good sense. | 15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. |
