Rescue me from my enemies, my God; protect me from those who rise up against me. | 1For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me. |
Rescue me from those who practice sin, and save me from men of bloodshed. | 2Deliver me from those who do iniquity And save me from men of bloodshed. |
Because look, LORD, they set an ambush for me. Powerful men attack me, but not because of any sin or rebellion of mine. | 3For behold, they have set an ambush for my life; Fierce men launch an attack against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O LORD, |
For no fault of mine, they run and take up a position. Awake to help me, and take notice. | 4For no guilt of mine, they run and set themselves against me. Arouse Yourself to help me, and see! |
LORD God of Armies, you are the God of Israel. Rise up to punish all the nations; do not show favor to any wicked traitors. Selah | 5You, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be gracious to any who are treacherous in iniquity. Selah. |
They return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city. | 6They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city. |
Look, they spew from their mouths--sharp words from their lips. "For who," they say, "will hear?" | 7Behold, they belch forth with their mouth; Swords are in their lips, For, they say, "Who hears?" |
But you laugh at them, LORD; you ridicule all the nations. | 8But You, O LORD, laugh at them; You scoff at all the nations. |
I will keep watch for you, my strength, because God is my stronghold. | 9Because of his strength I will watch for You, For God is my stronghold. |
My faithful God will come to meet me; God will let me look down on my adversaries. | 10My God in His lovingkindness will meet me; God will let me look triumphantly upon my foes. |
Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget. By your power, make them homeless wanderers and bring them down, Lord, our shield. | 11Do not slay them, or my people will forget; Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield. |
For the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. They utter curses and lies. | 12On account of the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be caught in their pride, And on account of curses and lies which they utter. |
Consume them in rage; consume them until they are gone. Then people will know throughout the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah | 13Destroy them in wrath, destroy them that they may be no more; That men may know that God rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth. Selah. |
And they return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city. | 14They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city. |
They scavenge for food; they growl if they are not satisfied. | 15They wander about for food And growl if they are not satisfied. |
But I will sing of your strength and will joyfully proclaim your faithful love in the morning. For you have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my day of trouble. | 16But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. |
To you, my strength, I sing praises, because God is my stronghold--my faithful God. | 17O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness. |
