I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help. | 1For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely on the LORD, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help. |
He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. | 2He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. |
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the LORD. | 3He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the LORD! |
How happy is anyone who has put his trust in the LORD and has not turned to the proud or to those who run after lies! | 4How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars! |
LORD my God, you have done many things--your wondrous works and your plans for us; none can compare with you. If I were to report and speak of them, they are more than can be told. | 5O LORD, my God, you have accomplished many things; you have done amazing things and carried out your purposes for us. No one can thwart you! I want to declare them and talk about them, but they are too numerous to recount! |
You do not delight in sacrifice and offering; you open my ears to listen. You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering. | 6Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. |
Then I said, "See, I have come; in the scroll it is written about me. | 7Then I say, "Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. |
I delight to do your will, my God, and your instruction is deep within me." | 8I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts." |
I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; see, I do not keep my mouth closed--as you know, LORD. | 9I have told the great assembly about your justice. Look! I spare no words! O LORD, you know this is true. |
I did not hide your righteousness in my heart; I spoke about your faithfulness and salvation; I did not conceal your constant love and truth from the great assembly. | 10I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. |
LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. Your constant love and truth will always guard me. | 11O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me! |
For troubles without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me; I am unable to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my courage leaves me. | 12For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. |
LORD, be pleased to rescue me; hurry to help me, LORD. | 13Please be willing, O LORD, to rescue me! O LORD, hurry and help me! |
Let those who intend to take my life be disgraced and confounded. Let those who wish me harm be turned back and humiliated. | 14May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! |
Let those who say to me, "Aha, aha!" be appalled because of their shame. | 15May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be humiliated and disgraced! |
Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation continually say, "The LORD is great!" | 16May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, "May the LORD be praised!" |
I am oppressed and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and my deliverer; my God, do not delay. | 17I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! |
