I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. | 1For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. |
I sought the Lord in my day of trouble. My hands were continually lifted up all night long; I refused to be comforted. | 2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. |
I think of God; I groan; I meditate; my spirit becomes weak. Selah | 3I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. |
You have kept me from closing my eyes; I am troubled and cannot speak. | 4You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. |
I consider days of old, years long past. | 5I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; |
At night I remember my music; I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders. | 6I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: |
"Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor? | 7"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? |
Has his faithful love ceased forever? Is his promise at an end for all generations? | 8Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" |
So I say, "I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed." | 10Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. |
I will remember the LORD's works; yes, I will remember your ancient wonders. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. |
I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your actions. | 12I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds." |
God, your way is holy. What god is great like God? | 13Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? |
You are the God who works wonders; you revealed your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. |
With power you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. |
The water saw you, God. The water saw you; it trembled. Even the depths shook. | 16The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. |
The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered; your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. |
The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind; lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked. | 18Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. |
Your way went through the sea and your path through the vast water, but your footprints were unseen. | 19Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. |
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
