Christian Standard Bible | New Living Translation |
I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. | 1I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! |
I sought the Lord in my day of trouble. My hands were continually lifted up all night long; I refused to be comforted. | 2When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. |
I think of God; I groan; I meditate; my spirit becomes weak. Selah | 3I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude |
You have kept me from closing my eyes; I am troubled and cannot speak. | 4You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray! |
I consider days of old, years long past. | 5I think of the good old days, long since ended, |
At night I remember my music; I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders. | 6when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now. |
"Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor? | 7Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? |
Has his faithful love ceased forever? Is his promise at an end for all generations? | 8Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude |
So I say, "I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed." | 10And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” |
I will remember the LORD's works; yes, I will remember your ancient wonders. | 11But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. |
I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your actions. | 12They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. |
God, your way is holy. What god is great like God? | 13O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? |
You are the God who works wonders; you revealed your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. |
With power you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude |
The water saw you, God. The water saw you; it trembled. Even the depths shook. | 16When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. |
The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered; your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. |
The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind; lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked. | 18Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. |
Your way went through the sea and your path through the vast water, but your footprints were unseen. | 19Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! |
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds. |
