| 1LORD, I call on you; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on you. | 1O LORD, I am calling to you. Please hurry! Listen when I cry to you for help! |
| 2May my prayer be set before you as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. | 2Accept my prayer as incense offered to you, and my upraised hands as an evening offering. |
| 3LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. | 3Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips. |
| 4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. | 4Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. Don’t let me share in the delicacies of those who do wrong. |
| 5Let the righteous one strike me--it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me--it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. | 5Let the godly strike me! It will be a kindness! If they correct me, it is soothing medicine. Don’t let me refuse it. But I pray constantly against the wicked and their deeds. |
| 6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. | 6When their leaders are thrown down from a cliff, the wicked will listen to my words and find them true. |
| 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. | 7Like rocks brought up by a plow, the bones of the wicked will lie scattered without burial. |
| 8But my eyes look to you, LORD, my Lord. I seek refuge in you; do not let me die. | 8I look to you for help, O Sovereign LORD. You are my refuge; don’t let them kill me. |
| 9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. | 9Keep me from the traps they have set for me, from the snares of those who do wrong. |
| 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, but let me escape. |
