Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. | 1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. |
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, | 2Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity, |
who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, | 3who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows, |
shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. | 4ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear. |
They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see them?” | 5They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say. |
They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.” For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep. | 6They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious. |
But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly. | 7But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded. |
They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads. | 8They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads. |
Then all mankind fears; they tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done. | 9Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done. |
Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult! | 10Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult. |
