English Standard Version | New Living Translation |
Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! | 1O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips. |
From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! | 2Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right. |
You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. | 3You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say. |
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. | 4I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people. |
My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. | 5My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you. |
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. | 6I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. |
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. | 7Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. |
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, | 8Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. |
from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. | 9Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me. |
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. | 10They are without pity. Listen to their boasting! |
They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. | 11They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground. |
He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. | 12They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart— like young lions hiding in ambush. |
Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, | 13Arise, O LORD! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword! |
from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. | 14By the power of your hand, O LORD, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants. |
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. | 15Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied. |
