| 1The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. | 1As for you, the one who lives in the shelter of the sovereign One, and resides in the protective shadow of the mighty king-- |
| 2I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." | 2I say this about the LORD, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust-- |
| 3He Himself will deliver you from the hunter's net, from the destructive plague. | 3he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter and from the destructive plague. |
| 4He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. | 4He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall. |
| 5You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, | 5You need not fear the terrors of the night, the arrow that flies by day, |
| 6the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon. | 6the plague that comes in the darkness, or the disease that comes at noon. |
| 7Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, the pestilence will not reach you. | 7Though a thousand may fall beside you, and a multitude on your right side, it will not reach you. |
| 8You will only see it with your eyes and witness the punishment of the wicked. | 8Certainly you will see it with your very own eyes--you will see the wicked paid back. |
| 9Because you have made the LORD--my refuge, the Most High--your dwelling place, | 9For you have taken refuge in the LORD, my shelter, the sovereign One. |
| 10no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent. | 10No harm will overtake you; no illness will come near your home. |
| 11For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. | 11For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do. |
| 12They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. | 12They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone. |
| 13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent. | 13You will subdue a lion and a snake; you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent. |
| 14Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows My name. | 14The LORD says, "Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me. |
| 15When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. | 15When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor. |
| 16I will satisfy him with a long life and show him My salvation. | 16I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation. |
