But you must say the things that are consistent with sound teaching.1But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.
Older men are to be level headed, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance. 2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.
In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 3Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.
so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, 4In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God's message will not be slandered. 5to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.
In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled6Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,
in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching. 7showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be ashamed, having nothing bad to say about us. 8and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.
Slaves are to be submissive to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back9Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,
or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything. 10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God has appeared with salvation for all people,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.
instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age, 12It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. 13as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession, eager to do good works. 14He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.
Say these things, and encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. 15So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you.
