| 1A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You. | 1A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you. |
| 2May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. | 2May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. |
| 3 LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. | 3Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. |
| 4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. | 4Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies. |
| 5Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. | 5Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers. |
| 6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. | 6Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken. |
| 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. | 7They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave." |
| 8But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die. | 8But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death. |
| 9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. | 9Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me. |
| 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety. |
