Job 40
HCSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
The LORD answered Job: 1Then the LORD said to Job,
Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer. 2“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD
Then Job answered the LORD: 3Then Job replied to the LORD,
I am so insignificant. How can I answer You? I place my hand over my mouth. 4“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.
I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but now I can add nothing. 5I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question you, you will inform Me. 7“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.
Would you really challenge My justice? Would you declare Me guilty to justify yourself? 8“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?
Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His? 9Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?
Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory. 10All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.
Unleash your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him. 11Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.
Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand. 12Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.
Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave. 13Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead.
Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you. 14Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox. 15“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox.
Look at the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly. 16See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly.
He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together. 17Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.
His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods. 18Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron.
He is the foremost of God's works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him. 19It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it.
The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there. 20The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play.
He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds. 21It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh.
Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him. 22The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream.
Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth. 23It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.
Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares? 24No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.
