Psalm 31
HCSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. LORD, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness. 1O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right.
Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. 2Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.
For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name. 3You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for You are my refuge. 4Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone.
Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, LORD, God of truth. 5I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.
I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. 6I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful love because You have seen my affliction. You have known the troubles of my life 7I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.
and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. 8You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.
Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow-- my whole being as well. 9Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away.
Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my sinfulness, and my bones waste away. 10I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.
I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. 11I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.
I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. 12I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot.
I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. 13I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.
But I trust in You, LORD; I say, "You are my God." 14But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!”
The course of my life is in Your power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. 15My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.
Show Your favor to Your servant; save me by Your faithful love. 16Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me.
LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on You. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be silent in Sheol. 17Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave.
Let lying lips be quieted; they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt. 18Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.
How great is Your goodness that You have stored up for those who fear You and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in You. 19How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.
You hide them in the protection of Your presence; You conceal them in a shelter from the schemes of men, from quarrelsome tongues. 20You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues.
May the LORD be praised, for He has wonderfully shown His faithful love to me in a city under siege. 21Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack.
In my alarm I had said," I am cut off from Your sight." But You heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to You for help. 22In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.
Love the LORD, all His faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. 23Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.
Be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. 24So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!
