In reply, Job responded: | 1Then Job answered: |
"What a help you are to the weak! How powerfully you deliver those without strength! | 2“How you have helped the powerless and saved the arm that is feeble! |
What counsel you provide to the fool! What insight you provide so abundantly! | 3How you have counseled the unwise and provided fully sound insight! |
Who helped you say all of this? Who inspired you?" | 4To whom have you uttered these words? And whose spirit spoke through you? |
"The ghosts of the dead writhe under the waters along with those who live there with them. | 5The dead tremble—those beneath the waters and those who dwell in them. |
Sheol is naked before God and Abaddon has no clothes. | 6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. |
He spreads out the north over empty space, suspending the earth over nothing. | 7He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth upon nothing. |
"He restricts the waters within clouds and the clouds don't burst open under them. | 8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their own weight. |
He has enclosed the face of the full moon and spread his clouds over it. | 9He covers the face of the full moon, spreading over it His cloud. |
He has delimited a boundary over the surface of the oceans as a limit between light and darkness. | 10He has inscribed a horizon on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. |
The pillars of the heavens tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. | 11The foundations of heaven quake, astounded at His rebuke. |
By his power he disturbs the sea; and with his skill he shatters the sea monster. | 12By His power He stirred the sea; by His understanding He shattered Rahab. |
he clears the skies with his wind; his hands have pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13By His breath the skies were cleared; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. |
Indeed, these are the fringes of his ways, and how faint is the whisper we've heard of it! But who can comprehend the thunder of his might?" | 14Indeed, these are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His power?” |
