Next, he brought me to the east-facing gate, 1He led me to the gate, the one that faces east,
and the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. His voice sounded like roaring water, and the land shimmered from his glory. 2and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice sounded like the roar of a huge torrent, and the earth shone with his glory.
His appearance in the vision that I was having was similar to what I observed in the vision where he had come to destroy the city, and also like the visions that I saw by the Chebar River. I fell flat on my face 3The vision I saw was like the one I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and like the ones I had seen by the Chebar Canal. I fell facedown.
while the glory of the LORD entered the Temple through the east-facing gate. 4The glory of the LORD entered the temple by way of the gate that faced east.
Just then, the Spirit lifted me up and carried me into the inner courtyard, where the glory of the LORD was filling the Temple! 5Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
I heard someone speaking to me from the Temple, and a man appeared, standing beside me!6While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from the temple.
"Son of Man," the Lord GOD told me, "This is where my throne is, where I place the soles of my feet, and where I will live among the Israelis forever. The house of Israel will no longer defile my holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their unfaithfulness, by the lifeless idols of their kings on their funeral mounds,7He said to me: "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites forever. The house of Israel and their kings will no longer defile my holy name by their religious prostitution and by the corpses of their kings at their high places.
by their setting up their threshold too close to my threshold and their door post too close to my door post, with a wall between me and them. After all, they have defiled my holy name by the loathsome things that they did, so I devoured them in my anger. 8Whenever they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they were defiling my holy name by the detestable acts they committed. So I destroyed them in my anger.
But now let them send their unfaithfulness—that is, the lifeless idols of their kings—far away from me, and I will live among them forever."9Now let them remove their prostitution and the corpses of their kings far from me, and I will dwell among them forever.
"And now, Son of Man, describe the Temple to the house of Israel. They will be ashamed because of their sin. They will measure its pattern. 10"As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities. Let them measure its pattern,
If they are ashamed of everything that they've done, you are to reveal to them the design of the Temple, its structure, its exits and entrances, its plans, its ordinances, and all of its regulations. Write it down where they can see it and remember all of its designs and regulations, so they will implement them. 11and they will be ashamed of all that they have done. Reveal the design of the temple to them--its layout with its exits and entrances--its complete design along with all its statutes, design specifications, and laws. Write it down in their sight so that they may observe its complete design and all its statutes and may carry them out.
This is to be the regulation for the Temple: the entire area on top of the mountain is to be considered wholly consecrated. This is to be the law of the Temple."12This is the law of the temple: All its surrounding territory on top of the mountain will be especially holy. Yes, this is the law of the temple.
"Here are the measurements of the altar in cubits that were a cubit and a handbreadth long: its base is a cubit long and a cubit wide, and its border around the edge at one handbreadth is to be the height of the altar. 13"These are the measurements of the altar in units of length (each unit being the standard length plus three inches): The gutter is 21 inches deep and 21 inches wide, with a rim of nine inches around its edge. This is the base of the altar.
From the base on the ground to its lower edge is to be two cubits, with its width to be one cubit. From the lesser ledge to the larger edge is to be four cubits. Its width is to be one cubit.14The distance from the gutter on the ground to the lower ledge is 3 1/2 feet, and the width of the ledge is 21 inches. There are 7 feet from the small ledge to the large ledge, whose width is also 21 inches.
The hearth is to be four cubits high, and four horns are to extend upwards from the hearth. 15The altar hearth is 7 feet high, and four horns project upward from the hearth.
The hearth is to be twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide; that is, it will be a four-sided square. 16The hearth is square, 21 feet long by 21 feet wide.
It is to have a ledge fourteen cubits long by fourteen cubits wide around the four sides. Its border is to be half a cubit and its base is to be a cubit all around, with its steps facing east."17The ledge is 24 1/2 feet long by 24 1/2 feet wide, with four equal sides. The rim all around it is 10 1/2 inches, and its gutter is 21 inches all around it. The altar's steps face east."
Then he told me, "This is what the Lord GOD says: 'These are the regulations for the altar, starting the day that it is constructed for presenting burnt offerings and sprinkling blood. 18Then he said to me: "Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings may be sacrificed on it and blood may be splattered on it:
You are to present to the Levitical priests, Zadok's descendants, who will approach me to serve me, a young bull for a sin offering,' declares the Lord GOD. 19You are to give a bull from the herd as a sin offering to the Levitical priests who are from the offspring of Zadok, who approach me in order to serve me." This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of its ledge, and on the border that surrounds it, thus cleansing it and making an atonement for it. 20"You are to take some of its blood and apply it to the four horns of the altar, the four corners of the ledge, and all around the rim. In this way you will purify the altar and make atonement for it.
You are also to present a bull for a sin offering, incinerating it in the appointed place at the Temple, outside the sanctuary.21Then you are to take away the bull for the sin offering, and it must be burned outside the sanctuary in the place appointed for the temple.
The second day following commencement of offerings, you are to offer a male goat without defect for a sin offering to cleanse the altar the same way they cleansed it with the bull. 22"On the second day you are to present an unblemished male goat as a sin offering. They will purify the altar just as they did with the bull.
After you've finished the cleansing, you are to present a young bull without defect and a ram from the flock without defect. 23When you have finished the purification, you are to present a young, unblemished bull and an unblemished ram from the flock.
You are to present them in the LORD's presence, and the priests are to throw salt on them and then present them as a burnt offering to the LORD.24You are to present them before the LORD; the priests will throw salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the LORD.
Every day for a week, you are to prepare a goat for a sin offering, a young bull, and a ram from the flock, each without defect. 25You will offer a goat for a sin offering each day for seven days. A young bull and a ram from the flock, both unblemished, are also to be offered.
For a seven day period they are to make atonement for the altar, purifying it and consecrating it. 26For seven days the priests are to make atonement for the altar and cleanse it. In this way they will consecrate it
When they will have completed this period, starting the next day, the priests are to offer your burnt offerings on the altar, along with your peace offerings, and I will accept you,' declares the Lord GOD."27and complete the days of purification. Then on the eighth day and afterward, the priests will offer your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar, and I will accept you." This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.
