| 2May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be yours! | 2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 3Brothers, at all times we are obligated to thank God for you. It is right to do this because your faith is growing all the time and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. | 3We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. |
| 4As a result, we rejoice about you among God's churches—about your endurance and faith through all the persecutions and afflictions you are experiencing. | 4Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring. |
| 5This is evidence of God's righteous judgment and is intended to make you worthy of God's kingdom, for which you are suffering. | 5This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— |
| 6Certainly it is right for God to pay back those who afflict you with affliction, | 6since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, |
| 7and to give us who are afflicted relief when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels | 7and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels |
| 8in blazing fire. He will take revenge on those who do not know God and on those who refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. | 8in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. |
