From: Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus, the Messiah. To: Those who have received faith that is as valuable as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. 1From Simeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, have been granted a faith just as precious as ours.
May grace and peace be yours in abundance through full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!2May grace and peace be lavished on you as you grow in the rich knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence. 3I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.
Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires. 4Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises, so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.
For this very reason, you must make every effort to supplement your faith with moral character, your moral character with knowledge, 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence, to excellence, knowledge;
your knowledge with self-control, your self-control with endurance, your endurance with godliness, 6to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness;
your godliness with brotherly kindness, and your brotherly kindness with love. 7to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish love.
For if you possess these qualities, and if they continue to increase among you, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in attaining a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.8For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.
For the person who lacks these qualities is blind and shortsighted, and has forgotten the cleansing that he has received from his past sins.9But concerning the one who lacks such things--he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing of his past sins.
So then, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election certain, for if you keep on doing this you will never fail. 10Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to be sure of your calling and election. For by doing this you will never stumble into sin.
For in this way you will be generously granted entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Messiah. 11For thus an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided for you.
Therefore, I intend to keep on reminding you about these things, even though you already know them and are firmly established in the truth that you now have. 12Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.
Yet I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I am living in this bodily tent, 13Indeed, as long as I am in this tabernacle, I consider it right to stir you up by way of a reminder,
because I know that the removal of my bodily tent will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, has shown me. 14since I know that my tabernacle will soon be removed, because our Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me.
And I will make every effort to see that you will always remember these things after I am gone.15Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my departure, you have a testimony of these things.
When we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, we did not follow any clever myths. Rather, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 16For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of his grandeur.
For he received honor and glory from God the Father when these words from the Majestic Glory were spoken about him: "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him." 17For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory: "This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted."
We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. 18When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain.
Therefore we regard the message of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp that is shining in a gloomy place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 19Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
First of all, you must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 20Above all, you do well if you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet's own imagination,
because no prophecy ever originated through a human decision. Instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.21for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
