| 3then they would have devoured us alive, when their anger burned against us. | 3they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us. |
| 4Then the flood waters would have overwhelmed us, the torrent would have flooded over us; | 4The water would have overpowered us; the current would have overwhelmed us. |
| 5the swollen waters would have swept us away. | 5The raging water would have overwhelmed us. |
| 6Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as prey to their teeth. | 6The LORD deserves praise, for he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth. |
| 7We have escaped like a bird from the hunter's trap. The trap has been broken, and we have escaped. | 7We escaped with our lives, like a bird from a hunter's snare. The snare broke, and we escaped. |
