Psalm 77
International Standard VersionNET Bible
I cry out to God! I cry out to God and he hears me.1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; my hands were raised at night and they did not grow weary. I refused to be comforted.2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.
I remember God, and I groan; I meditate, while my spirit grows faint. Interlude3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah)
You kept my eyes open; I was troubled and couldn't speak.4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak.
I thought of ancient times, considering years long past.5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times.
During the night I remembered my song. I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders.6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening.
Will the Lord reject me forever and not show favor again?7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor?
Has his gracious love ceased forever? Will his promise be unfulfilled in future generations?8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever?
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion? Interlude9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?"
So I say: "It causes me pain that the right hand of the Most High has changed."10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive.
I will remember the LORD'S deeds; indeed, I will remember your awesome deeds from long ago.11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago!
As I meditate on all your works, I will consider your awesome deeds.12I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!"
God, your way is holy. What god is like our great God?13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God?
God, you are the one performing awesome deeds. You reveal your might among the nations.14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations.
You delivered your people— the descendants of Jacob and Joseph— with your power. Interlude15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah)
The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and writhed. Indeed, the depths of the sea quaked.16The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear.
The clouds poured rain; the skies rumbled. Indeed, your lightning bolts flashed. 17The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about.
Your thunderous sound was in a whirlwind; your lightning lights up the world; the earth becomes agitated and quakes.18Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.
Your way was through the sea, and your path through mighty waters, but your footprints cannot be traced. 19You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints.
You have led your people like a flock by the hands of Moses and Aaron.20You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
