Now the Spirit says clearly that in the last times some people will abandon the faith by following deceitful spirits, the teachings of demons, 1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
and the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences have been burned by a hot iron. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
They will try to stop people from marrying and from eating certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
For everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
If you continue to point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good servant of the Messiah Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the healthy teaching that you have followed closely. 6If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.
Do not have anything to do with godless myths and fables of old women. Instead, train yourself to be godly. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
Physical exercise is of limited value, but Godliness is very dear, a pledge of life, both there and here.8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
This is a trustworthy saying that deserves complete acceptance.9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.
To this end we work hard and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, that is, of those who believe.10That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
These are the things you must insist on and teach. 11Command and teach these things.
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity. 12Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
Until I arrive, give your full concentration to the public reading of Scripture, to exhorting, and to teaching. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy when the elders laid their hands on you. 14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Think on these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress. 15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.
Pay close attention to your life and your teaching. Persevere in these things, because if you do so, you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
