| 1Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: | 1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars. |

| 3She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, | 3She has sent out her female servants; she calls out from the highest points of the city: |
| 4Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, | 4"Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says, |
| 5Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. | 5"Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed. |
| 6Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. | 6Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding. |
| 7He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. | 7The one who corrects a mocker will bring abuse on himself; the one who rebukes the wicked will get hurt. |
| 8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. | 8Don't rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke the wise, and he will love you. |
| 9Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. | 9Instruct the wise, and he will be wiser still; teach the righteous, and he will learn more. |
| 10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. | 10"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. |
| 11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. | 11For by me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. |
| 12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it. | 12If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit; if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences." |
| 13A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. | 13Folly is a rowdy woman; she is gullible and knows nothing. |
| 14For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, | 14She sits by the doorway of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, |
| 15To call passengers who go right on their ways: | 15calling to those who pass by, who go straight ahead on their paths: |
| 16Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, | 16"Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says, |
| 17Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. | 17"Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten secretly is tasty!" |
| 18But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell. | 18But he doesn't know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. |
