| 2Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp rasor, working deceitfully. | 2Like a sharpened razor, your tongue devises destruction, working treachery. |
| 3Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. | 3You love evil instead of good, lying instead of speaking truthfully. Selah |
| 4Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. | 4You love any words that destroy, you treacherous tongue! |
| 5God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. | 5This is why God will bring you down forever. He will take you, ripping you out of your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah |
| 6The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: | 6The righteous will see and fear, and they will derisively say about that hero, |
| 7Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. | 7"Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior." |
| 8But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. | 8But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I trust in God's faithful love forever and ever. |
| 9I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints. | 9I will praise you forever for what you have done. In the presence of your faithful people, I will put my hope in your name, for it is good. |
