King James Bible | English Standard Version |
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. | 1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. |
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. |
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. | 3They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. |
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. | 4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD? |
There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. | 5There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. |
Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. | 6You would shame the plans of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | 7Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. |
