To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. | 1For the choir director. Davidic. The fool says in his heart, "God does not exist." They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good. |
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven on the human race to see if there is one who is wise, one who seeks God. |
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. | 3All have turned away; all alike have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one. |
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. | 4Will evildoers never understand? They consume My people as they consume bread; they do not call on the LORD. |
There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. | 5Then they will be filled with terror, for God is with those who are righteous. |
Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. | 6You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted, but the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | 7Oh, that Israel's deliverance would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad. |
