King James Bible | International Standard Version |
We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. | 1Since, then, we are working with God, we plead with you not to accept God's grace in vain. |
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) | 2For he says, "At the right time I heard you, and on a day of salvation I helped you." Listen, now is really the "right time"! Now is the "day of salvation"! |
Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: | 3We do not put an obstacle in anyone's way. Otherwise, fault may be found with our ministry. |
But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, | 4Instead, in every way we demonstrate that we are God's servants by tremendous endurance in the midst of difficulties, hardships, and calamities; |
In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; | 5in beatings, imprisonments, and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights, and hunger; |
By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, | 6with purity, knowledge, patience, and kindness; with the Holy Spirit, genuine love, |
By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, | 7truthful speech, and divine power; through the weapons of righteousness in the right and left hands; |
By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; | 8through honor and dishonor; through ill repute and good repute; perceived as deceivers and yet true, |
As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; | 9as unknown and yet well-known, as dying and yet—as you see—very much alive, as punished and yet not killed, |
As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. | 10as sorrowful and yet always rejoicing, as poor and yet enriching many, as having nothing and yet possessing everything. |
O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. | 11We have spoken frankly to you, Corinthians. Our hearts are wide open. |
Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. | 12We have not cut you off, but you have cut off your own feelings toward us. |
Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. | 13Do us a favor—I ask you as my children—and open wide your hearts. |
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? | 14Stop becoming unevenly yoked with unbelievers. What partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? What fellowship can light have with darkness? |
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? | 15What harmony exists between the Messiah and Beliar, or what do a believer and an unbeliever have in common? |
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. | 16What agreement can a temple of God make with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said: "I will live and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people." |
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, | 17Therefore, "Get away from them and separate yourselves from them," declares the Lord, "and don't touch anything unclean. Then I will welcome you. |
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. | 18I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters," declares the Lord Almighty. |
