To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. | 1For the choir director; according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David. The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God," They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice; There is no one who does good. |
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. | 2God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God. |
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. | 3Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. |
Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God. | 4Have the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God? |
There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them. | 5There they were in great fear where no fear had been; For God scattered the bones of him who encamped against you; You put them to shame, because God had rejected them. |
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | 6Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores His captive people, Let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. |
