King James Bible | NET Bible |
Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God: for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. | 1Observe the month Abib and keep the Passover to the LORD your God, for in that month he brought you out of Egypt by night. |
Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the LORD thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there. | 2You must sacrifice the Passover animal (from the flock or the herd) to the LORD your God in the place where he chooses to locate his name. |
Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life. | 3You must not eat any yeast with it; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, symbolic of affliction, for you came out of Egypt hurriedly. You must do this so you will remember for the rest of your life the day you came out of the land of Egypt. |
And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning. | 4There must not be a scrap of yeast within your land for seven days, nor can any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain until the next morning. |
Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee: | 5You may not sacrifice the Passover in just any of your villages that the LORD your God is giving you, |
But at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt. | 6but you must sacrifice it in the evening in the place where he chooses to locate his name, at sunset, the time of day you came out of Egypt. |
And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents. | 7You must cook and eat it in the place the LORD your God chooses; you may return the next morning to your tents. |
Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work therein. | 8You must eat bread made without yeast for six days. The seventh day you are to hold an assembly for the LORD your God; you must not do any work on that day. |
Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn. | 9You must count seven weeks; you must begin to count them from the time you begin to harvest the standing grain. |
And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: | 10Then you are to celebrate the Festival of Weeks before the LORD your God with the voluntary offering that you will bring, in proportion to how he has blessed you. |
And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there. | 11You shall rejoice before him--you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the Levites in your villages, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows among you--in the place where the LORD chooses to locate his name. |
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes. | 12Furthermore, remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and so be careful to observe these statutes. |
Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine: | 13You must celebrate the Festival of Temporary Shelters for seven days, at the time of the grain and grape harvest. |
And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates. | 14You are to rejoice in your festival, you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows who are in your villages. |
Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice. | 15You are to celebrate the festival seven days before the LORD your God in the place he chooses, for he will bless you in all your productivity and in whatever you do; so you will indeed rejoice! |
Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: | 16Three times a year all your males must appear before the LORD your God in the place he chooses for the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Temporary Shelters; and they must not appear before him empty-handed. |
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee. | 17Every one of you must give as you are able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you. |
Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment. | 18You must appoint judges and civil servants for each tribe in all your villages that the LORD your God is giving you, and they must judge the people fairly. |
Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. | 19You must not pervert justice or show favor. Do not take a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and distort the words of the righteous. |
That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. | 20You must pursue justice alone so that you may live and inherit the land the LORD your God is giving you. |
Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee. | 21You must not plant any kind of tree as a sacred Asherah pole near the altar of the LORD your God which you build for yourself. |
Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth. | 22You must not erect a sacred pillar, a thing the LORD your God detests. |
