| 1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: | 1When Jesus had finished saying these things, he looked upward to heaven and said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you-- |
| 2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. | 2just as you have given him authority over all humanity, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. |
| 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. | 3Now this is eternal life--that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent. |
| 4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. | 4I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. |
| 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. | 5And now, Father, glorify me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created. |
| 6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. | 6"I have revealed your name to the men you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have obeyed your word. |
| 7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. | 7Now they understand that everything you have given me comes from you, |
| 8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. | 8because I have given them the words you have given me. They accepted them and really understand that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. |
| 9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. | 9I am praying on behalf of them. I am not praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given me, because they belong to you. |
| 10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. | 10Everything I have belongs to you, and everything you have belongs to me, and I have been glorified by them. |
| 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. | 11I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one. |
| 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. | 12When I was with them I kept them safe and watched over them in your name that you have given me. Not one of them was lost except the one destined for destruction, so that the scripture could be fulfilled. |
| 13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. | 13But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world, so they may experience my joy completed in themselves. |
| 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. | 14I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. |
| 15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | 15I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the evil one. |
| 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. | 16They do not belong to the world just as I do not belong to the world. |
| 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. | 17Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth. |
| 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. | 18Just as you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. |
| 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. | 19And I set myself apart on their behalf, so that they too may be truly set apart. |
| 20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; | 20"I am not praying only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their testimony, |
| 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. | 21that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me. |
| 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: | 22The glory you gave to me I have given to them, that they may be one just as we are one-- |
| 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. | 23I in them and you in me--that they may be completely one, so that the world will know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me. |
| 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. | 24"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they can see my glory that you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world. |
| 25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. | 25Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men know that you sent me. |
| 26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. | 26I made known your name to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them." |
