| 1A Song of degrees. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. | 1A song of ascents. Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; |
| 2Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. | 2Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. |
| 3If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? | 3If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? |
| 4But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. | 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. |
| 5I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. | 5I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. |
| 6My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. | 6I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. |
| 7Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. | 7Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. |
