| King James Bible | New Living Translation |
 | 1A Song of degrees. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. | 1From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. |
| 2Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. | 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. |
| 3If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? | 3LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? |
| 4But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. | 4But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. |
| 5I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. | 5I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. |
| 6My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. | 6I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. |
| 7Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. | 7O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. |
| 8And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. | 8He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin. |
