King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. | 1O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. |
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. | 2You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you. |
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; | 3When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— |
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? | 4what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? |
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. | 5Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. |
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: | 6You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority— |
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; | 7the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals, |
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. | 8the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. |
O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! | 9O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! |
