Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."1After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!"" Here I am," he answered."
He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."2Take your son," He said, "your only son Isaac, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.3So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about.
On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.4On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you."5Then Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship; then we'll come back to you."
Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac. In his hand he took the fire and the sacrificial knife, and the two of them walked on together.
Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"7Then Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, "My father." And he replied, "Here I am, my son." Isaac said, "The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together.8Abraham answered, "God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." Then the two of them walked on together.
Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.9When they arrived at the place that God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood.
Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.10Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son.
But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."11But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" He replied, "Here I am."
He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."12Then He said, "Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from Me."
Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.13Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it will be provided."14And Abraham named that place The LORD Will Provide, so today it is said: "It will be provided on the LORD's mountain."
Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven,15Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven
and said, "By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,16and said, "By Myself I have sworn," this is the LORD's declaration: "Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,
indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.17I will indeed bless you and make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gates of their enemies.
"In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."18And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed My command."
So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.19Abraham went back to his young men, and they got up and went together to Beer-sheba. And Abraham settled in Beer-sheba.
Now it came about after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor:20Now after these things Abraham was told, "Milcah also has borne sons to your brother Nahor:
Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram21Uz his firstborn, his brother Buz, Kemuel the father of Aram,
and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel."22Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."
Bethuel became the father of Rebekah; these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.23And Bethuel fathered Rebekah. Milcah bore these eight to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.24His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
