New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed; In Your righteousness deliver me.1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. LORD, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness.
Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly; Be to me a rock of strength, A stronghold to save me.2Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name's sake You will lead me and guide me.3For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name.
You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength.4You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for You are my refuge.
Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of truth.5Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, LORD, God of truth.
I hate those who regard vain idols, But I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, Because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul,7I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful love because You have seen my affliction. You have known the troubles of my life
And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a large place.8and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place.
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; My eye is wasted away from grief, my soul and my body also.9Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow-- my whole being as well.
For my life is spent with sorrow And my years with sighing; My strength has failed because of my iniquity, And my body has wasted away.10Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my sinfulness, and my bones waste away.
Because of all my adversaries, I have become a reproach, Especially to my neighbors, And an object of dread to my acquaintances; Those who see me in the street flee from me.11I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me.
I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.12I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery.
For I have heard the slander of many, Terror is on every side; While they took counsel together against me, They schemed to take away my life.13I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life.
But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD, I say, "You are my God."14But I trust in You, LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.15The course of my life is in Your power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors.
Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness.16Show Your favor to Your servant; save me by Your faithful love.
Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call upon You; Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol.17 LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on You. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be silent in Sheol.
Let the lying lips be mute, Which speak arrogantly against the righteous With pride and contempt.18Let lying lips be quieted; they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.
How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of men!19How great is Your goodness that You have stored up for those who fear You and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in You.
You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.20You hide them in the protection of Your presence; You conceal them in a shelter from the schemes of men, from quarrelsome tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city.21May the LORD be praised, for He has wonderfully shown His faithful love to me in a city under siege.
As for me, I said in my alarm, "I am cut off from before Your eyes"; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried to You.22In my alarm I had said," I am cut off from Your sight." But You heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to You for help.
O love the LORD, all you His godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful And fully recompenses the proud doer.23Love the LORD, all His faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant.
Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD.24Be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD.
