Proverbs 9
NASB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995International Standard Version
Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;1Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.
She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table;2She has prepared her food, she has spiced her wine, and she also has set her dining table.
She has sent out her maidens, she calls From the tops of the heights of the city:3She has sent out her young women, while calling out from the heights of the city,
"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks understanding she says,4"Let whoever is naīve, turn in here." To anyone lacking sense, she says,
"Come, eat of my food And drink of the wine I have mixed.5"Come! Eat my food, and drink the wine that I have mixed.
"Forsake your folly and live, And proceed in the way of understanding."6Leave your naīve ways, and live. Walk in the path of understanding."
He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself.7Whoever corrects a mocker invites only insult, and whoever rebukes the wicked will himself become stained.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you.8Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.9Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.10The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.11For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it.12If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.
The woman of folly is boisterous, She is naive and knows nothing.13The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and without knowledge.
She sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high places of the city,14She sits at the entrance of her house, on a seat high above the city.
Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight:15She calls out to those passing by on the road, who are minding their own business,
"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," And to him who lacks understanding she says,16"Whoever is naīve, turn in here!" And to anyone lacking sense, she says,
"Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."17"Stolen waters are sweet, and food eaten in secret is delicious."
But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of Sheol.18But he does not realize that the dead lurk there, and her invited guests wind up in the depths of Sheol.
