New American Standard Bible 1995 | New International Version |
Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man with a measuring line in his hand. | 1Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. |
So I said, "Where are you going?" And he said to me, "To measure Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it is." | 2I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is." |
And behold, the angel who was speaking with me was going out, and another angel was coming out to meet him, | 3While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him |
and said to him, "Run, speak to that young man, saying, 'Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the multitude of men and cattle within it. | 4and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, 'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. |
'For I,' declares the LORD, 'will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.'" | 5And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.' |
"Ho there! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have dispersed you as the four winds of the heavens," declares the LORD. | 6"Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the LORD. |
"Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon." | 7"Come, Zion! Escape, you who live in Daughter Babylon!" |
For thus says the LORD of hosts, "After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. | 8For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you--for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye-- |
"For behold, I will wave My hand over them so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me. | 9I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me. |
"Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," declares the LORD. | 10"Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the LORD. |
"Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in that day and will become My people. Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. | 11"Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. |
"The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem. | 12The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. |
"Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for He is aroused from His holy habitation." | 13Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling." |
