Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. He took Gath and its surrounding towns away from the Philistines. 1Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from the hand of the Philistines.
He defeated the Moabites; the Moabites became David's subjects and brought tribute. 2David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.
David defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah as far as Hamath, when he went to extend his authority to the Euphrates River.3As far as Hamath, David also defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah, who had marched out to establish his dominion along the Euphrates River.
David seized from him 1,000 chariots, 7,000 charioteers, and 20,000 infantrymen. David cut the hamstrings of all but a hundred of Hadadezer's chariot horses.4David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers, and he hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the chariots.
The Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, but David killed 22,000 of the Arameans.5When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand men.
David placed garrisons in the territory of the Arameans of Damascus; the Arameans became David's subjects and brought tribute. The LORD protected David wherever he campaigned.6Then he placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
David took the golden shields which Hadadezer's servants had carried and brought them to Jerusalem.7And David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
From Tibhath and Kun, Hadadezer's cities, David took a great deal of bronze. (Solomon used it to make the big bronze basin called "The Sea," the pillars, and other bronze items. 8And from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.
When King Tou of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of King Hadadezer of Zobah,9When King Tou of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
he sent his son Hadoram to King David to extend his best wishes and to pronounce a blessing on him for his victory over Hadadezer, for Tou had been at war with Hadadezer. He also sent various items made of gold, silver, and bronze.10he sent his son Hadoram to greet King David and bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,
King David dedicated these things to the LORD, along with the silver and gold which he had carried off from all the nations, including Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek. 11and King David dedicated these to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all these nations—from Edom and Moab, and from the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalekites.
Abishai son of Zeruiah killed 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.12Moreover, Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects. The LORD protected David wherever he campaigned. 13He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
